In this exhibition, you'll immerse yourself in the fascinating world of meadows and pastures, engaging all your senses. The exhibition takes you into a habitat that is particularly important for nature conservation – and one that can be wonderfully explored, even with the whole family.
The focus is on the species-rich smooth oatgrass meadow, which is protected throughout Europe . On 20 lovingly designed, richly illustrated panels , you will learn how diverse our native meadows are, why many plants are threatened today, and what can be done to preserve them – specifically in the Coesfeld district.
A short film vividly demonstrates how species-poor grassland areas can be revitalized. You'll see how the so-called hay transfer process works using a meadow machine, tractor, and manure spreader – a true success story for nature.
The listening station is especially exciting for young visitors: Here, two rare plant species tell their own unique stories. Learn about the lungwort gentian and marvel at the bee orchid , a fascinating orchid that can also be found in the Coesfeld district.
Another highlight is the botanical display cart . Here you can discover pressed plants preserved in resin. This unique plant archive allows you to experience the diversity of the meadows up close.
Come along, look closely, listen carefully – and discover where the wild plants lived!
