wildlife Park Dülmen

Anyone at “DülmenAnyone who thinks of “nature” only as the wild horses in the Merfelder Bruch has definitely missed out!

For right on the city's doorstep awaits a true natural beauty: the Dülmenthe wildlife park – or, as we call it for our country bumpkin: “The Duke’s English Park”.

Here, the motto is: stroll, marvel, and enjoy! In a wonderfully relaxed park landscape, you can encounter many native animal species without any fences or barriers. Red deer, fallow deer, mouflon, and roe deer often cross your path or can be observed leisurely grazing. Nature up close, stylish, and surrounded by greenery.

The park has history, but without any dust or boredom. As early as the 19th century, the Dukes of Croÿ had their country estate built here and brought on board Edward Milner, a true star of landscape architecture. The result was a park in typical English style: expansive meadows, beautiful groups of trees, shimmering ponds – and of course the Heart Pond with its charming wooden bridge, a perfect spot for a short break or a souvenir photo.

What began as 120 hectares has, over time, transformed into a truly vast natural paradise. Today, the wildlife park covers approximately 250 hectares, combining open parkland with extensive mixed forests. Various native wild animals have lived here since the 1920s, making each visit a unique experience.

Whether a leisurely stroll, a short break from everyday life, or a relaxing nature experience on the 3rd stage of the Hohe Mark Cycle Route, this "Exceptional beauty" to discover with the whole family: The DülmenThe wildlife park invites you to stroll, linger, and be happy. Our country walker is just the thing to help you experience it. “Duke’s English Parks” to discover, both for long-distance runners and intensive explorers – with a choice of around 4 kilometers for a relaxed stroll or 14 kilometers for those who can't get enough, admission is free – and good mood comes with it.
