Nature reserves are the most valuable refuges for animals and plants in the Naturpark Hohe Mark. Here, nature is allowed to develop as undisturbed as possible – many rare species find their habitat right here. To ensure that this remains the case, special rules apply in nature reserves.
The Naturpark Hohe Mark It is full of special places: tranquil moors, species-rich meadows, ancient forests, and striking landscape features. Many of these areas are protected to ensure the long-term preservation of animals, plants, and the landscape itself.
There are various forms of protection for this. These include: Nature reserves, landscape protection areas, Natural monuments and protected landscape featuresThey all share a common goal: to preserve the diversity of nature and protect valuable habitats.
Exactly where these areas are located and what rules apply there are defined in so-called Landscape plans The regulations are defined. In areas where no landscape plan yet exists or which are located within towns and villages, protection is regulated by corresponding ordinances of the responsible authorities.
This creates a situation throughout Naturpark a network of protected natural and landscape areas – places where nature can unfold and which at the same time remain accessible to us humans.

Most importantly: Leaving the designated paths is prohibited. Many animals are sensitive to disturbance, especially during the breeding and rearing season. Plants can also be damaged if people walk across meadows, heaths, or forests. The paths will still lead you right through the most beautiful areas – so you'll experience a lot without disturbing nature.
Dogs are in Naturpark Dogs are welcome but must always be kept on a leash in nature reserves. Even a friendly, curious dog can startle wildlife or disturb nesting birds. Keeping dogs on a leash therefore not only protects wildlife but also ensures a peaceful coexistence for all visitors.
Plants, fungi, and other natural materials should generally be left where they grow or lie in nature reserves. Many species are rare or protected – and they often play an important role in the habitat. So the best thing to do is: look, photograph, and simply enjoy nature.
Cycling, horseback riding, and other recreational activities are only permitted on designated paths in many nature reserves. Therefore, pay attention to the signs on site. They will show you what is allowed and where special consideration is required.

If all visitors adhere to these simple rules, nature reserves can remain what they should be: safe havens for animals and plants – and at the same time special places for people who want to consciously experience nature.
