Bird sanctuaries

Anyone who travels through the landscapes in Naturpark Hohe Mark Anyone strolling through the area quickly realizes: Here, nature is not only beautiful – it is also worth protecting. A special part of this are the Natura 2000 areas, which also include the Bird sanctuaries These are true refuges for rare and sensitive bird species that breed, rest, or overwinter here.

To ensure this remains the case, there are a few rules of the game that are actually quite simple – and make a big difference:

In bird sanctuaries, please stay on the designated paths. What might seem like a small, adventurous detour can quickly become stressful for ground-nesting birds like lapwings or woodlarks – in the worst case, they may abandon their nests altogether. Dogs must also be kept on a leash at all times. Even the friendliest canine is perceived as a threat by wild animals.

Peace and quiet are also crucial. Loud music, drone flights, or other disturbances have no place here. The animals need these areas to recharge their energy – especially during the breeding season and on long migrations.

And one more thing: Please take nothing but memories – and leave nothing but footprints. Picking plants, disturbing animals, or leaving trash damages the delicate balance.

In short: Those who show consideration protect. And ensure that rare bird species will continue to thrive in the area in the future. Naturpark Hohe Mark find a home.
