Between the “Weißes Venn” and the “Schwarzes Venn”, the “Letter Bruch” and the “Merfelder Bruch” you will experience a unique meadow and moor landscape on the black route. Here, nature has been preserved in a largely intact state in the numerous nature reserves, even today.

If you want to observe rare bird species in the wet meadows, you should not forget your binoculars on this route: with a bit of luck, you might see curlews, herons or plover in their natural habitat.

And anyone who takes a detour to the bird park of the Maria Veen Nature and Bird Protection Association will be rewarded with around 50 different species of parakeets and macaws.

As you continue your journey, you will reach the hermitage (forest chapel), which is idyllically situated in the forest. There is said to have once been a miraculous spring here. Today it is a visitor center for many believers. In addition to the chapel, which is freely accessible during the day, a rest area also offers the opportunity to take a break.
