Explore the unimaginable dimensions of our solar system in a “walk-in” model? True to scale?
It works! The BorkenThe planetary path would like to be 6 km to represent precisely these dimensions and make them "accessible on foot". A hiking experience from Pröbstingsee up to the Josef Bresser Observatory with interesting Info about the sun and planets.
Information boards provide interesting facts about the structure, size, orbital period around the sun, temperature, and distance from the sun and the earth.
The planet trail for children has been completed since September 2024 and can be explored at any time. The circular trail begins at the sun near the boathouse. PröbstingseeFrom there, the route leads past the rocky planets, on to the first gas giant, Jupiter, and finally to the ice giants at the end of the path. There you get an idea of the enormous distances in space and the scale of things.
Along the route, numerous recreational opportunities on the lakeshore – including children's playgrounds, sun loungers, restaurants, and boat rentals – offer a welcome break. The "Belle Vue" viewing platform directs the gaze of visitors both near and far, connecting the small and large lakes.

The Josef Bresser Observatory invites visitors to make fascinating discoveries of the night sky. The observatory's centerpiece is a 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope – the largest telescope of its kind ever mass-produced. This powerful optical system allows for the observation of thousands of celestial objects invisible to the naked eye.
Depending on the season and weather, impressive views of the moon, the planets of our solar system, bright star clusters, galactic nebulae, and distant galaxies unfold. Thus, the starry sky becomes a unique natural experience for young and old alike.
The Josef Bresser Observatory is done on a voluntary basis by the members of the astronomy club Borken operated by a registered association (e.V.) that enjoys sharing its knowledge and enthusiasm for astronomy with interested visitors.
