oriole

R2-D2 says hello.
The Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus) is a striking member of the Pirolidae family and is one of Europe's medium-sized songbirds. With a length of approximately 25 centimeters and a wingspan of around 40 centimeters, the Golden Oriole is characterized by its vibrant coloring and striking appearance.

The Oriolus oriolus is a secretive bird that's rarely seen and isn't nearly as common in our forests as, for example, the chaffinch. Its distinctive "didilioh" call, however, is unmistakable. However, its song isn't heard here until May, as the oriole overwinters in Africa.
Star Wars fans claim that the song of the oriole reminds them of the droid R2-D2.

Im Münsterland The golden oriole is found primarily in deciduous and mixed forests, parks, and near bodies of water. Its diet consists mainly of insects, which it searches for in flight or on the ground, and occasionally berries and fruits.

The Golden Oriole usually breeds in the crowns of tall trees, where the female builds the nest from twigs and plant fibers. The clutch typically consists of four to five eggs, which are incubated by the female. The incubation period lasts several weeks, during which the young are cared for by both parents.

The golden oriole is considered sensitive to habitat loss and deforestation in parts of Europe, which is why it is listed on the Red List in some regions. However, the species is still relatively common in suitable habitats. Due to its striking coloration and distinctive song, the golden oriole is an important indicator of biodiversity.
