“Off to the countryside” – and suddenly there they are before you: the DülmenThe wild horses!
On Europe's last remaining wild horse trail, a herd of around 400 free-roaming horses roams through meadows and heathland. Dun-colored, with a dark dorsal stripe and full of energy – here you can watch foals playing, mares nursing their young, or horse families dozing peacefully in the grass. Truly beautiful creatures, and that's how we also got the Stage 3 of the Hohe Mark Cycle Route named after you, where you can also experience a real wow moment, as with every guided tour for young and old!
Things get especially fascinating when forester Friederike Rövekamp starts talking. She knows every horse and gives firsthand accounts of how the herd lives and moves through the terrain. Those who are out early should definitely try the sunrise tours: when the sun bathes the herd in warm light, it looks simply magical – a moment you won't forget.
The wild horse track is open from March/April (weather permitting) until November 1st on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia from 10 am to 6 pm (admission until 5:30 pm).
Access is via the road. "To the wild horse track", 48249 DülmenThe ticket office is also located there. Parking is available directly on the premises. From there, the picnic area can be easily reached on foot in just a few minutes.
Guided tours of the wild horse track are available on request on all weekdays.
