Packed everything? Then send the backpack to yourself or your companion and get going!
The International Dark Sky Week from 21 to 28 April 2025 is more than just an annual event. It's a call to action to preserve the night sky and raise awareness of the effects of light pollution.
We join in and celebrate the “Dark Sky Week” in Naturpark High mark! This special event invites you to experience the beauty of the starry sky and raise awareness of the problem of light pollution. During the new moon week, when the sky is at its darkest, you can expect daily posts with interesting information on the topic.
A journey into the darkness of the night. Since its founding in 2003 by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), Dark Sky Week has grown into a global event bringing together scientists, conservationists, and all interested citizens. Its goal is to raise awareness of the importance of the dark night sky and to draw attention to the problems of massive light pollution.
But why is the night sky so important? The loss of dark nights not only impacts astronomy, but also affects wildlife, human health, and ecological balance. A steady increase in artificial light obscures the starry sky and disrupts natural rhythms essential to many life forms.
Dark Sky Week invites us to reflect on this loss and find solutions.
For young, scientifically interested people, Dark Sky Week offers a unique opportunity to engage with current research findings and technology for measuring light pollution. The event series encourages active participation in observations and workshops that not only highlight the beauty of the night sky but also stimulate scientific discourse on the ecological and social impacts of light pollution.
Past experience has shown how powerful such events can be. During the last Dark Sky Week, thousands of people around the world participated in stargazing and collected data that astronomers and environmental researchers used to develop better solutions.
At a time when technological innovations and an increasingly dense network of diverse lighting illuminate our nights, it is crucial to address the challenges of light pollution.
Dark Sky Week provides a platform for this dialogue – and at the same time allows us to rediscover the beauty of the universe.
