Drinking water campaign reaches new milestone
Haltern am See. The regional drinking water campaign "UNSER KLARES" (Our Clear Water) by the 2Stromland eV association, which is professionally supported by the Landschaftsagentur Plus (Landscape Agency Plus), is celebrating an important milestone: With "JUPP der Erlebnisbiergarten" (JUPP the Adventure Beer Garden) in Haltern am See, a restaurant between the Lippe and Stever rivers is officially including sustainable tap water on its drinks menu for the first time.
Under the motto "It's tapped – but climate-friendly!", the first glass was ceremoniously tapped on June 3. In attendance were Nicole Büsing, Managing Director of Landschaftsagentur Plus, restaurateurs Martina Hörstrup and Toddy Geldmann, representatives of the 2Stromland eV association, Gelsenwasser, DEHOGA Westfalen, and Haltern's mayor, Andreas Stegemann, who is also a member of the association's board.
HOME TAPES INSTEAD OF CARRYING BOTTLES
Mayor Stegemann insisted on enjoying the first glass of UNSER KLARES (unclear water) – thus inaugurating the new beverage offering, which is available to guests for €2,50 per glass. A special highlight: You can refill your glass as often as you like until your thirst is quenched. The fresh tap water – still or sparkling – comes directly from professional drinking water dispensers.
"If you want to drink local water, tap our Halterner water," says Martina Hörstrup. "Sustainable, honest, delicious – with every glass of UNSER KLARES, our guests support the region in the 2Stromland region."
Her brother Toddy Geldmann adds: "Fresh water doesn't need to travel around the world. Why drive across Europe for water when some of Germany's best tap water bubbles right on our doorstep—filtered through the Halterner Sande. That's regional climate protection with every sip."
ONE MODEL FOR MANY
Haltern's mayor, Andreas Stegemann, was delighted that the association's nature conservation project had reached the next level. He considered this a clear success for the intermunicipal cooperation of the four towns between Lippe and Stever. Haltern am See, Datteln, Oer-Erkenschwick and Olfen are pulling together. Stegemann now hopes that other local restaurants will follow the example of the restaurant on the banks of the Haltern reservoir:
"Jupp, the adventure beer garden, has always been known for being highly innovative and creative, without neglecting its historical roots. Therefore, it's only logical that Martina Hörstrup and Toddy Geldmann are the first to make 'Our Clear Beer' appealing to restaurant guests. On behalf of the 2Stromland region, we thank you for the trusting and uncomplicated cooperation and hope that many will follow suit. Jupp and UNSER KLARES are a wonderful match."
Torsten Gleißner, who heads Gelsenwasser's Recklinghausen operations department, summarized the benefits of tap water at the official tapping of UNSER KLARES:
"Drinking water flows reliably and environmentally friendly from the tap 24/7, is tested daily, and is of high quality – we, the blue-green team at Gelsenwasser, ensure this. All guests who tap this thirst quencher here in the Jupp Adventure Beer Garden or at home can rely on this! And with a direct view of our dam, the restaurant also focuses on resource conservation and sustainability on site!"
This is also important to Martin Bienhüls of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association DEHOGA Westfalen: "It tastes absolutely delicious, cool, and refreshing. The topic of sustainability is therefore very important for restaurateurs. And I believe they can contribute to it."
LESS EFFORT, MORE SUSTAINABILITY
The new offering also brings organizational benefits: "We save storage space, and our staff are less burdened – no more lugging crates of drinks, no more constantly refilling the refrigerators," explains Toddy Geldmann. "The integration into our concept was straightforward and has been entirely positive, I can already say that."
WATER AND NATURE CONSERVATION BELONG TOGETHER
Nicole Büsing, Managing Director of Landschaftsagentur Plus, emphasizes the importance of the initiative:
"An intact landscape is a prerequisite for clean drinking water. Anyone who drinks OUR CLEAR water—whether at home or in a beer garden—also supports the work of the 2Stromland association and actively contributes to nature and climate protection."
The first glass in the beer garden is a good start. Now it's time to refill – for the sake of thirst, the region, and the climate.
