On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Environment and Transport Minister Oliver Krischer announced the winners of the funding competition “Naturpark.2027.North Rhine-Westphalia” with the motto “Your NATURE park – Discover the diversity” of the Ministry of the Environment. The state is providing one million euros for the implementation of projects by 2027. 147.200 euros of this will go to the Naturpark Hohe Mark for a joint project with the municipality of Raesfeld.

The funding from the competition will be used to create a connection between the palace and the zoo. A biotope landscape will be ecologically enhanced and made accessible. To create a view of the biotope, a wooden plateau will be built and the path leading towards the zoo will be equipped with experience stations and rest areas.
This will significantly improve the value of the trail for guests, especially families with children. The carp pond, the public park and the Femeiche in Erle will be linked to this central adventure trail and thus visible to interested guests.
The project will be implemented by the end of 2027.

Further funding will be provided to Naturparke Sauerland Rothaargebirge (funding: 180.800 euros) and the Naturpark Siebengebirge (funding: 72.000 euros). The respective funding amounts are derived from the submitted competition entries.
