Our forest is facing enormous challenges: The climate crisis, which is accompanied by an increase in extreme weather such as heat, drought and storms, poses a great threat to the forest. In order to make the forest climate-resilient and future-proof, it is necessary to preserve and promote its biological diversity and thus increase the adaptability of the forest ecosystem to changing environmental conditions and extreme weather. Biodiversity gives the forest stability and increases its resilience.
Foresters and forest owners contribute to promoting biodiversity through sustainable and diverse forms of forest management and thus preserving the forest for future generations. The federal and state governments are using a wide range of measures to support further advances in the protection of forests. But securing the future of the forest can only be managed by society as a whole.
The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) is inviting together with the German Forestry Council (DFWR), the German Nature Conservation Association and numerous other associations and organizations to the German Forest Days. These will take place for the fourth time in 2022. They are an initiative of the BMEL and this year's motto is "Experience biological diversity!".
