Fascination – Joy – Confidence
Staufen im Breisgau, 18 September 2024.
At the second nationwide conference of the National Natural Landscapes, around 150 representatives of the 16 national parks, 104 Naturparke, 18 biosphere reserves and 3 wilderness areas in Germany on 18 September 2024, the “NNL Programme 2030” and the establishment of the “Stiftung Nationale Naturlandschaften gGmbH” were decided. The conference will take place from 16 to 19 September 2024 in Staufen im Breisgau in Naturpark Südschwarzwald e. V., which is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a celebratory event.
For three years, NNL e. V. and VDN e. V. have been working closely together under the umbrella brand National Natural Landscapes (NNL), which as an alliance includes the national parks, Naturparke, biosphere reserves and wilderness areas cover a third of the area in Germany. Now, in their NNL Program 2030, the National Natural Landscapes are appealing to the parliaments and governments at federal and state level as well as to those responsible at local level to strengthen the National Natural Landscapes as instruments for the conservation of biodiversity, sustainability and climate protection.
"In our NNL Program 2030, we define our common goals for the National Natural Landscapes. By protecting and developing large-scale natural and cultural landscapes, we are particularly committed to the preservation of biological diversity, natural climate protection and climate adaptation, as well as sustainable development. At the same time, we are shaping the face of Germany at home and abroad," explains Friedel Heuwinkel, President of VDN e. V.
"Our services for nature and society are of fundamental importance for the preservation of the livelihoods of this and future generations as well as for a good life within planetary boundaries. We are thus making an important contribution to the socio-ecological transformation of Germany," adds Peter Südbeck, Chairman of the Board of NNL e. V.
“With the work on site in every Naturpark, national park, biosphere reserve and wilderness area, we support the implementation of regional, national and international strategies such as the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development with its 17 goals (SDGs),” says Roland Schöttle, Managing Director Naturpark Southern Black Forest Association and board member of VDN Association
In order to be able to implement the agreed goals even better in the future, the members of the umbrella organizations VDN e. V. and NNL e. V. have decided to establish the Foundation Nationale Naturlandschaften gGmbH. This will enable the 141 NNLs to be supported even more effectively and efficiently in the future and to develop their full potential for the preservation of biological diversity, climate protection and sustainable development.
